Class Project
My teammates and I recently presented a class assignment on Urban Transportation for aging behind the wheel. Now before you read it lets clarify a few things. This was a group assignment and as in all group projects, there are compromises involved so I may not agree on all points made in this power point. I am not saying in any shape or form that public transportation is the answer to getting seniors off the road. I am especially not saying that the US's present public transportation system is the answer. Besides that, I hope you find it educational. Enjoy this presentation. So a few errors occurred and I'm not sure how to fix them so I will add the missing graphs here in the blog post since they will not appear in the slide show.
Road Deaths rise with age. - missing in slide #3.
While Public transportation is not the most convenient or realistic for trips to the grocery store, it can be used as an inexpensive way to get to doctor offices, and friends’ houses, and would greatly reduce the number of times you reach for your car keys. While people today may not be courteous on the road they are more ready to give up their seat on the bus for a little old lady, or frail old main. The same mindset can be applied to carsharing, community organizations, and para transits. All of which are a more viable option then your own a taxi as your own personal chauffeur.

So what do you feel is an acceptable solution to the increased auto-related deaths in the older demographic? Do you think it would be worth creating a better public transportation system, or do you feel citizens should be restricted from driving after a certain age?
ReplyDeleteDo you feel that it is a necessity to get old people that have proven a danger on the road to have to find other forms of transportation?
